Solving the Records Dilemma
Q: What problems were you looking to solve within your department?   A: One of the problems that we have, which is not unlike most agencies, is a problem with storage when it comes to records in general. We have a records room with filing cabinets, as most people do, as well as an archive storage room where we file away our records in bankers boxes, where they just collect dust. Like everybody else, we’re short for space. Some of the folks on the city hall side had been using this document image/scanning service for commissions, minutes and so forth. So, we looked at the solution provider, AccuImage, to see what we could do on the police side to archive some of our records [i.e., arrest, offense, accident reports, traffic tickets, property receipts, etc.], which would allow us to free up filing space.   Q: What factors did you consider before implementing your solution?   A: We’re bound by law to retain records for a certain period of time.
